Echo: An Allegory of the Soul
What does a human need aside from the blood & body of Christ?
Eat the body of Christ in the form of an english muffin at 3am.
Leave the blood of Christ on the bedside table.
Hope to wake up reborn.
Rising toward the spirit of resilience.
Emerging from the dark cave of martyrdom.
Crucified for our own contentment.
We travel in spirit
while our body is nailed
to the cross
between
who we are,
who we are known to be,
and who we are becoming.
We are nailed on the cross in the solitary confinement of a human mind.
We will break free one day.
For now,
we are looking at shadows on a cave wall
in the dim glow of a candle that’s wax is dripping.
Time is ticking.
All we are-
shadow and reflection.
All we are-
A holy spirit in a cave.
Hearing echos of human contact,
which ruminate these rocky walls.
“Is anyone else here?”
“Is anyone else here?”
“Is anyone else here?”
Then,
bone-chilling silence.
Is there hope when the echos dissipate?
“I am here.”
“I am here.”
“I am here.”
Our echos
fade
along with
the candlelight.
