cattywampus

addicted to love; no, not addicted to romance, or the idea of a potential love…

addicted to the love that happens when surrounded by those who are mesmerizing;

mesmerized by those moments of "ah-ha"-

at times calm, at times crying,

at times cattywampus.

The cat perched on her hammock in the window, glows in the sunshine behind the foliage of a rosemary plant. The way she watches the cottonwood float outside like birds or dragonflies. The way she slowly turns herself & floats down to lay on her side, then watches the cottonwood float by;

the same way I curl up & watch shadows on the wall flicker & change in the light's timing.

The conversations shared with a neighbor on Father’s Day, where she tells a story that’s longer than you intended to hear, but you don’t want to miss a moment of it. How the story causes tears to well up in your eyes as you realize that she lives the same virtue taught to you by your father...

“There is always time to go the extra mile to help someone”

There is always time to go the extra mile to listen, to spontaneously plant a garden for someone who hands you seeds & asks for help after telling their long story of how they found the time to go the extra mile to help someone.

That moment of noticing a story of the village it takes to plant a garden, as you sow calendula & radish seeds adjacent rhubarb plants sowed by a mother & daughter; all to ensure this woman, who can no longer tend to her own garden, has one to witness grow outside her townhome.

        The weeds pulled by a neighbor the other week so the village had space to sow these seeds.

    The friend who transforms last night's leftovers into a communal meal that nourishes & connects through bacon grease & veggie omelets; frosé for dessert to help mend the hangover of a late night.

Coffee that never stops flowing…a community that never stops giving you a reason to fall in love again.

    The irresistible urge to squeeze this life by the cheeks & pull it in close…even if only for a brief moment of calm, a moment of tears that weld head & heart, a moment of love for this cattywampus perennial garden we are all sowing in each mesmerizing “ah-ha”.
